Refuel your creative side
What are lunch hours good for if not nutrition and refueling? But what about refueling your mind and your creative spirit? We here at the NAC believe that spinach is great and everything, but occasionally a person needs some spinach for the soul.
To that end we are pleased to present an enlightening series of masterclasses that anyone is able to attend. Take your lunch break at the NAC Fourth Stage and listen in on artists at the top of their game.
Two Masterclasses This Week!
Tuesday, February 9, noon, NAC Fourth Stage
Masterclass with Theo Bleckmann, jazz vocalist
Admission: FREE
Wednesday, February 10, noon, NAC Fourth Stage
Masterclass with Glenn Dicterow, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic
Admission: $10, students $5
“What’s a masterclass?” you say
A masterclass is basically a private music lesson with a really amazing teacher except that it’s in front in an audience. Yes, it sounds kind of like an anxiety dream, but it is a trusted method in which many people get to benefit from a great teacher at work
What do you mean by videoconferencing?
Now this is cool: we’re able to bring world-renowned teachers and top-notch students together from all around the world using videoconferencing. That means that the teacher can be here in Ottawa, for example, and students in New York City and everyone can see and hear what each other is doing as if they are in the same room. Don’t ask me about the technical stuff, but if you’re that way inclined you can read more about it here.
Do I have to be a music student to attend?
You sure don’t. Anyone can attend these masterclasses. Just be aware that usually the students who participate in these masterclasses are at a very high level and if you’re anything like me and every now and then have to be reminded of what a treble clef is, some of it might go over your head.
